Comprehensive Care for Students

Type of Visit  Visit Details  Charges already covered by Student Health Fee and will NOT be billed. Charges that might be incurred during the visit based on the provider's orders.  These will be billed to the insurance and the patient. 

Rapid Access Care for Illness or Injury

Triage Care Registered Nurse triage assessment of acute health care concerns.  May be via telephone or in person RN Visit Over the counter medications or first aid supplies picked up in Health Services
Sick Visits Visit with Medical Provider for evaluation and treatment of acute medical illnesses, including respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal illnesses, and rashes.  Medical Provider Office Visit Any lab tests ordered by medical provider*
IV or Injectable Medications, nebulizer treatment or over the counter medications purchased at time of service
Accidents/Injuries Visit with Medical Provider for evaluation and treatment of an injury that needs medical attention, including wound care, suturing, or splinting Medical Provider Office Visit (if a procedure is not required) Medical Provider Procedures (such as suturing or wound debridement)
Any lab tests ordered by medical provider*
Medical supplies such as crutches or slings (if needed)
Nurse Visits Visits with Registered Nurse for services defined by Nurse Visit Protocols, for example: blood pressure checks, ear lavage, pregnancy testing and/or emergency contraception. RN Visit Over the counter medications or first aid supplies picked up in Health Services
Non-Invasive Surgical Procedures Scheduled procedures with Medical Provider.  For example: IUD removal, abscess irrigation and debridement, wart removal, and ingrown toenail removals.   Medical Provider Procedures

Scheduled Primary Care

Routine Medical Care Evaluation and treatment of new health concerns or ongoing chronic conditions. Medical Provider Office Visit Any lab tests ordered by provider*

Immunizations (if needed)
Physicals Comprehensive physical examinations for employment, internships, participation in athletics, etc. are provided. Medical Provider Office Visit Any lab tests ordered by provider*
Tuberculin skin testing (if needed)

Sexual/Reproductive Health  Screening and evaluation for sexual transmitted infections, routine pap smears, contraceptive counseling, and management. Medical Provider Office Visit Pap smears or any other lab tests ordered by medical provider*
Mental Health Evaluation/Medication Management Assessment and treatment for concerns including depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD and sleep disorders or other mental health diagnoses.   Medical Provider Office Visit
Referral and visits to Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)
Any lab tests ordered by provider*
Coordination of Care Continuation of ongoing care that has been provided by a previous healthcare professional, including transfer of prescription medication management. Medical Provider Office Visit  

 Laboratory Services

 In-House Analyzers Hematology and Chemistry testing such as Complete Blood Counts and Comprehensive Metabolic Panels can be performed in house. Specimen collection Lab testing performed in Health Services will be billed to insurance and the patient by Health Services
 On-site Rapid Diagnostics Strep testing, influenza testing, Covid-19 testing, pregnancy testing, urinalysis, sickle cell screening, and pregnancy tests. Specimen collection Lab testing performed in Health Services will be billed to insurance and the patient by Health Services
 Reference Labs Health Services utilizes an external reference lab for processing labs that cannot be performed in-house. Specimen collection Lab testing performed by LabCorp will be billed to insurance and the patient by LabCorp
 Specimen Collection Lab specimens for orders from licensed medical providers external to Health Services can be collected and sent to the reference lab for processing. Results will be returned to the ordering provider. Specimen collection Lab testing performed by LabCorp will be billed to insurance and the patient by LabCorp

 Pharmacy Services

IV or Injectable Medications IV therapy and Injectable medications are available in Health Services under the direction of a medical provider for certain medication conditions. Medical Provider Office Visit IV and/or Injectable procedures are billed to insurance and the patient 
Electronic Prescriptions All prescription medications are prescribed electronically and will be sent to the retail pharmacy of the patient’s choice. Medical Provider Office Visit Billed by the pharmacy 
Over the Counter Medications and First Aid Supplies Common over the counter medications including pain relievers, decongestants, anti-acids, topical ointments and first aid supplies are available for purchase.   Available for purchase without a medical provider visit. Billed directly to the patient at the time of purchase (can be charged to the WCU student account)

Injection Services

Immunizations Tdap, Td Boosters, MMR, Hepatitis B, and Flu vaccines are available RN Visit Billed to insurance and/or the patient
Allergy Shots/ Immunotherapy Allergy injections are offered through coordination with the ordering provider. To participate in this service, patients are required to bring their allergy serum and physician's orders for the administration of the allergy injections to the allergy clinic. Administration of Allergy Shots  
Therapeutic Injectable Medications Patients with prescription injectable medications prescribed by other healthcare providers may be able to coordinate to receive their injection in Health Services.  RN Visit   
***NOTE:  Labs performed in Health Services will be billed by Health Services.   Labs performed by LabCorp will be billed by LabCorp
